For this project, I worked from a cropped portrait photograph and manually traced the subject to create a simplified digital interpretation.

I chose a photograph of my godfather because I was taking the class around the time of his birthday, giving the project a personal connection.

I manually traced the photograph and translated the subject's features into simplified shapes and tonal areas. The final portrait uses grayscale to reduce the image to a range of light, mid, and dark values while preserving the recognizable features of the original photograph.
