A logo design project exploring how personal meaning and visual symbolism can inform a brand identity. I chose the lotus flower as the central visual because of its connection to my Indian heritage and a personal childhood memory of my maternal grandmother growing a lotus.
I chose the lotus for two reasons: it is India's national flower, and it has personal significance through a memory of my maternal grandmother growing a lotus in the garden of her old home.
Because flowers are commonly associated with perfumes and cosmetics, I explored the lotus as the central visual element for a perfume brand. I wanted the identity to feel elegant, soft, and distinctive.
I designed the perfume bottle with a lotus at its base to establish the flower as the central theme of the brand.
My initial design used the Curvature Tool to create the petals. During a work-in-progress critique, I received feedback to use smoother lines to better communicate the brand's sense of elegance.
I revised the design by using the Circle Tool to construct the petals and the Direct Selection Tool to manipulate their shape.
I developed a pastel color palette inspired by lotus color:
Pink — the lotus flower
Green — the leaves surrounding the lotus
Blue — the bottle cap, representing the lotus as an aquatic plant
I also selected the Delinia typeface because it felt stylish while remaining readable.
Based on critique feedback, I refined the bottle's edges, standardized the stroke weight to 1 pt, and moved the company name from inside the bottle to below it. This helped give both the bottle and the name more visual attention.
The final logo combines the lotus, perfume bottle, pastel palette, and elegant typography into a cohesive visual identity.
The iterative process showed me how small changes to shape, spacing, stroke weight, and typography can significantly affect how polished and visually balanced a logo feels.
